Happy Mother’s Day:  A Happy Day To Be Someone’s Mom

This Mother’s Day has been a little different than any of my other fabulous ten years.  It is my first Mother’s Day without my own Mom, who I lost in February.  Although I was trying to hide out and not acknowledge the day – just really wanting to be on the other side of this one, I knew my kids would not allow that.  The anticipation of how overwhelmed I was going to feel just missing my wonderful Mom was exhausting me just leading up to the day.

But on that lovely morning, I was given a handmade card by my little girl, Shea.  On it was a picture of her and I, completely looking alike, from our cute little bob haircuts to our flowing pink dresses.  But Shea has a walker.  A lovely little green and orange walker, with the same  smile she always has on her face.

I love that she is ok with this.  That she see’s herself as needing her walker to get around and that is ok.  It is simply “her,” and she is beautiful.  We are alike, there is nothing making us different or separate, and we are both ok today.

My brothers and sisters and I went to see my Mom at the cemetery in the morning, and I clung to my card the whole time.  I wanted to share it with her and let her know that we are doing all right.  Missing her like crazy, but happy to be a Mom and moving ahead with all the things that matter and all the little people who depend me.
